Most Frequent Questions made by Level I Practitioners
How often should I self -treat with Reiki?
It is ideal to self-treat daily preferable twice a day before you get up and before you fall sleep. This routine will help you keep grounded, centered and balanced.
What kind of healing signs will I experience after Reiki Level I?
You may experience the following symptoms:
Physical:
Light headache, tiredness,
Emotional:
Moodiness like tears, fuzzy mood.
These symptoms are letting you know that your body is releasing toxins. The closer toxins are to the surface of your body the more you will feel them through uneasiness. One of the reasons I teach on Saturdays is to give you guys the chance to rest on Sunday. It is important that you talk to your partner and let them know that if you seem a little bit moody, it is due Reiki bringing out emotions that had been stored from years before. Drink Lots of water this will help the body to release toxins much easily.
How I'm suppose to do some hand placements when recipient is laying down? ie- hands on their back or back of their head.
When giving Reiki to a recipient, I place my hand on their hara chakra (on the tummy) and at the same time slice my other hand under their tummy on their back part of the body so in this case I will be working position number 13 and position number 23 at the same time, working top and back of the body at once. This is easier to do if you are working on a massage table. Another good example for working two positions, front an back, at the same time are position number 7 and position number 21. On position 5, I slice both hands under my clients head. Reiki practitioners divide points in order to save time.
In level II class I will teach you how to divide sessions accordingly.
Lots of thoughts come to mind while delivering Reiki. What would you suggest as a method to concentrate more on the practice and less in thought? Should I say OM while delivering Reiki through the body positions or just be silent?
Being silent is better if you are working on someone else but if it is your desire you can chant the OM silently in your mind. If you are working on your own, feel free to chant the OM; absolutely. It will bring you a sense of peace and will help your mind get clear. Our mind is not used to focus on many things at once so when you focus on your breathing, counting numbers or chanting, it will clear up any extra thoughts.
It may help if you close your eyes and witness the thought and let it go. Just like if it was a cloud on the sky. If you know it is a thought that is brought by your ego ( I can’t do this, This is not working, I feel nothing, etc.) then let them flow. Soon they will be completely removed and replaced by thoughts that may be more involved with messages from source. As you think less you will be able to see colors, shapes and pictures. It takes practice but we all have these powers within.
I find that a complete Reiki session is so time consuming for 21 days. Can I split the session up into intervals in the day? Can I do it while watching TV or when i just have 3 minutes to myself? And why 3 minutes???
If you don't have time to do all 24 points at once, yes you can divide the session to as many times as it is necessary/preferred. I like 15 min sessions each time throughout the day and I divide them morning, after lunch, after supper, and before bed time. Of course it all depends on your availability. You should dedicate 3 min to each point at least but you can also work 2 points at once. 3 minutes is what is recommended, I don't think you have to dedicate 3 minutes, it all depends on your availability to do the best you can. Each Chakra needs 3 consecutive days of practicing daily self-Reiki to become free of negative blocks. Yes, you can deliver Reiki to yourself while watching TV as concentration is not needed. If the mini intervals are far from each other it is good to offer the prayer of appreciation every time that you deliver Reiki to yourself so that you tune in with source again each time.
Do I need to meditate also on a daily basis in addition to 24 positions?
Reiki is also a form of meditation so you don't have to practice Reiki and then meditation unless you want to meditate more. I tend to meditate more than I need to and all the sudden I feel very spacey or kind of in the clouds. We are to be present in the moment and being physical is what we should do most of the day. I include moving meditations in my daily activities; for instance, if I want to organize, I like to practice an organization meditation that I learned from my Reiki Master, I call it 'look where the hand is going' Sometimes we tend to be active but our mind is in a different place and for that same reason is that we may lose our keys or don't remember where we put our pen last time we used it. By being aware of your hand and paying attention where it goes every time you take an object you will become more organized and conscious of where things are. It is also important to have a home for each thing that you own. Whatever doesn't have a home should not be in your home.
Another meditation I like is the food meditation. Every time I eat food I really taste it, like for instance a strawberry. I feel every part of it and think of the wonderful journey it has gone through before I reach it. Do I taste rain? Do I taste sunshine? It is amazing how good food taste when you actually are present at the moment you eat. Yummy.
All day my mind travels a lot. Even if I am working, eating or doing anything else I find myself thinking about past discussions that happened with family or friends. It’s hard to concentrate sometimes. Even during Reiki my mind travels a lot. Is there any way I can stop my mind to travel and concentrate on what I am doing?
Be aware that Reiki will bring memories as it is healing emotional aspects so thinking about past issues during your Reiki practice is quite normal at the beginning.
There is a native story about two wolfs that live in a man's heart and they fight continuously . One is good and one is bad. This man asked a healer which wolf will win and the healer respond : The one you feed.
Worry takes time away from dreaming. When you were a child you spent more time dreaming because that is our natural power to create reality through imagination. Society changes dream for fear in order to take control. What you can do when thoughts of worry arrive is to replace them with dreams (day dreams) what is it that you want to attract into your life? Think of you as if you were already living that life? Avoid thinking how you will get there. Just imagine how it will feel to be there. The only thing that will bring you faster to your dream is practice. Feed the dream not the worry.
The more we concentrate on Reiki positions the more is the flow of energy? is that right?
No, you don't have to put any effort on your part. Reiki doesn't come from you it flows through you. You don't need to concentrate on Reiki positions. You could even have a conversation with the recipient, or the recipient could be watching TV, listening to the radio etc., No concentration is required. Reiki flows through you as soon as you tune in with the prayer of appreciation and later on, as you practice Reiki will even flow through you as you think of it. It is beautiful to feel how accessible Reiki is.
I practiced Reiki on my partner today but did not practice on me, would that still count as part of my 21 day practice?
Yes, you only need to practice on one recipient per day that includes you or any family member/friend to whom you deliver Reiki. As you practice Reiki with family and friends you will be delivering Reiki to you as well.
I was reading in an article that in order to have effective Reiki you should not only be giving Reiki to yourself and others but should be receiving Reiki from others. Is that right?
There is not such thing as 'more effective Reiki' as Reiki is always effective. What makes your delivery effectively is the consistency of your practice to which you definitely can add some Reiki Sharing if you want. I truly enjoy Reiki Sharings and that's why I invite my students to repeat levels with me when they are offered because it will be a Reiki Sharing in itself. Repeating a class is free of charge.
Every full moon I open my home to a Reiki Sharing and some people travel but not many of them do as they rather just wait until I travel to teach at their own town. The full moon doesn't really have any significance into why I offer the Reiki Sharing then, It is just a good point of reference for everyone to remember that a Reiki Sharing is coming up.
Can you recommend meditations to do along with Reiki?
Deepak and Oprah offer a 21 day meditation challenge every now and then free of charge.
I have been doing this meditations many times and get lots of satisfaction from them. I like to know that many other people is meditating at the same pace and I also do this meditations as I provide Reiki to myself. I simply start to listen to the meditation, offer the prayer of appreciation and place my hands where they feel comfortable and let them be there during the entire meditation. Just that, gives me the boost I need for the day or the rest for the night depending on the time I listen to them. I highly recommend them.
Feedback from Students:
I feel tiredness in my hands while doing some of the positions but feel good after completion.
It is very normal to feel very relaxed during and after receiving a Reiki session which includes a big desire to nap. Our body has stored stress for many years and now that we are helping it heal, it looks forward to rest. Do rest as much as it is possible. Referring to the hands, if you are referring to the arms in general, we are not use to hold our hands on the air for a long time and that is why our muscles feel the extra effort, the good thing is that these hand positions will help us tone our arms. Also, remember to be comfortable first. You can use a chair to sit down and place a pillow under your arms so that they get some support and don't feel the effort that much.
One day I feel that Reiki energy flow is normal but another day I feel that flow is less yet; the other day, I was delivering Reiki to my partner but I did not feel that much energy flowing through my body but they felt it and told me they have vibrations going on in their feet.
Sometimes you will feel the energy flow more than other times, there is nothing to worry. If the body is in need of Reiki, energy will flow. Not feeling Reiki flow doesn't mean it is not flowing. As you have said, your partner did feel the energy. It is very important to remember that we are not the ones providing the energy. We may tend to blame ourselves if we, or the patient, did not feel any sensations. Reiki flow through us and it is an intelligent energy that flows to wherever is needed. That is why your partner felt Reiki energy even though you didn't. As I am offering the prayer of appreciation I personally think of leaving my ego aside. It helps me feel more confident of the energy flowing freely through me.
When I deliver Reiki to my partner and child, if they start sleeping I also feel sleepy along with them while performing Reiki .
Reiki will flow through you and benefit you even if you are delivering to others. The sleepy feelings are a sign that your body is relaxing and wants to rest. This happens mostly in the first 21 days as it is cleaning toxins and negative energies from your body.
All of the sudden I started feeling very drawn to colours like yellow, purple, sky, red & green and I feel good when I see these colours.
As you deliver Reiki to yourself you may perceive colours, these may be from the chakras which are active to the colours you mentioned. Chakras will get moving as we focus our attention in the colours that correspond to each chakra. Base: Red, Hara: Orange, Solar Plexus: Yellow, Heart: Green/Pink, Throat: Blue sky, Brow: Indigo, Crown: Violet.
